Message from the Superintendent

Message from the Superintendent

I would like to take this opportunity to say that it is a privilege to serve as the Superintendent of the Sterling School District. My name is Theodore (Ted) Friend and I have worked full time with students for over 40 years, with the last twelve years as Superintendent of the Sutton Public Schools in Massachusetts. As I told the staff on opening day, the Sterling Community School must be the following: “Sterling, a community where every student is known, loved, cared for, and believed in.”

We as a community must never give up on a child. Childhood is a journey not a race and we all need to be there to support every child as they learn and grow. Collectively, we must have high expectations for our students and encourage them every step of the way. I will never give up on a child and I ask you to join me in that mindset.

I want to help create a school culture that makes learning fun, challenging, and rigorous. Fun and rigor are not mutually exclusive. I want to help create a culture where students and staff are smiling as they enter and leave the school building each day. I want to help create a culture where families are encouraged and comfortable coming to the building as volunteers, for programs, and special events. I want to help create a school culture that makes the Sterling school the center of activity for students and families. Simply put, I want to help create a culture of community.

The job of a Superintendent is to serve the community, staff, and most importantly the students. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at [email protected] or by phone (860) 564-4219.

Sincerely,

Ted Friend, Superintendent
