The Visual and Performing Arts Program at the Sterling Community School is based on the premise that every student needs and deserves a high-quality education in the visual and performing arts. The arts are an integral component of the comprehensive curriculum provided to all Sterling Community School students at every grade because they play an essential role in the daily lives of citizens and are essential to the expression of human experience. An understanding and appreciation of the arts, as well as the ability to participate in the arts, are essential attributes of an educated person.

Students consider, select and apply a range of subject matter, symbols and ideas.
History and Cultures
Students understand the visual arts in relation to history and cultures.
Analysis, Interpretation and Evaluation
Students reflect upon, describe, analyze, interpret, and evaluate their own and others’ work.
Students make connections between the visual arts, other disciplines and daily life.
