The Sterling Board of Education works diligently on behalf of the youth of the Sterling community and serves as the official liaison between the broader community and the school district. Pursuant to Connecticut state law and our By-Laws, we are the municipal body within Sterling which governs public education for the town of Sterling, Connecticut. Additionally, we work collaboratively with the Board of Selectmen and the Board of Finance to plan for sustaining a viable school district that can remain responsive to the needs of our students, which are annually addressed through the documentation of Board of Education goals.
Among our primary duties are the identification of annual educational goals to be met by the school district administration and staff; the consideration and approval of an annual budget for submission to the Board of Selectman, the Board of Finance and the Town; the selection of a Superintendent, who serves as the Executive Officer of the Board; and the employment of principals, teachers and other school employees. A full list of the duties of the Board of Education is set forth in our policies.
